Chinese New Year Dragons
First and Second Graders learned all about the traditions of Chinese New Year. This year the Chinese New Year was on Monday, February 8—the Year of the Monkey. We also discussed the similarities and differences between Eastern and Western dragons depicted in stories. Our dragons were started with a curvy piece of yarn. Around this center we add richly detailed patterns and elements of the different animals composing an Eastern dragon: the head of a camel, horns of a deer, ears of a cow, eyes of a hare, neck of an iguana, belly of a frog, scales of a fish, and the paws and claws of a tiger.
