Owls & Pumpkins
Wooooo......Wooooo....What evokes the special feeling of autumn more than a pumpkin patch at night with owls keeping watch? Both First and Second Graders used observational drawing to create their pictures. First Graders studied real life pumpkins, noticing the curved segments of a pumpkin, while Second Graders chose from a variety of photographs of owls. Both used white chalk on black paper, outlined with Crayola Gel Glue. We then used our fingers to blend chalk pastels between the black lines, creating texture and atmosphere. The students also explored pumpkins and owls three-dimensionally with clay.
