Line and Color
Kindergartners have started the year learning about the all important Elements of Art: Line and Color. We have read stories about lines, air-drawn them, put our bodies into lines, and found them around the classroom. Our first project entailed drawing different types of lines with black oil pastels and then painting with tempera cakes. In our second project, we learned about the rainbow order of colors by reading a book and listening to Greg Percy's song: "Roy G. Biv", which is a mnemonic to help remember the order. The children used watercolors to paint in rainbow order. When these were dry, we cut different types of lines into them and glued them on to black paper, thus creating lines in the negative space.
