Scratch Art
Seventh and Eighth Graders spent the first marking period creating animal Scratch Art drawings. After first sketching their selected animal on white paper, they transferred it to black scratch board and used scratching tools to scrape away the light areas. Their focus was on accurately recreating the variety of textures in their reference photographs and creating a range of values to build the illusion of three dimensional form. Emphasis was added at the end with watercolors.
