Unity Still Lifes
Third and Fourth Graders began this year learning how artists use value to create three-dimensional form. First, they shaded a circle to create a sphere. Then they applied this knowledge to their watercolor paintings of a simple still life of fruit. We then studied the ways artists create UNITY, one of our Principles of Design, by limiting choices to give a oneness to a work of art. The students created their Unity backgrounds by tearing or cutting one shape out of a selected xeroxed pattern; painting it with liquid watercolor; and embellishing it with metallic gold designs and glitter glue.
