Pastel Patterns
Patterns are all around us in nature and have inspired artists as different as Georgia O’Keefe and Andy Goldsworthy. Many patterns are based on mathematical principles. Seventh and Eighth graders chose a photograph of a pattern found in nature and used the grid method to accurately enlarge it to pastel paper. Then, carefully observing both the patterns and textures found in the fur, scales, hide, etc., they used a combination of hard and soft chalk pastels to create these stunning drawings.
